Gone Country!
Where have I been? What have I been doing? Don’t I love you anymore? These are all valid questions. I have left the bright lights and big hair of Dallas and made my way to a quieter place. The people of this little town call it Stewartsville but I have renamed it in my honor. Welcome to Pinkerville! I moved into the little farm house down the road from my Mom. This will be the fourth state I have lived in in less than 3 years. Change is obviously not something I fear any longer, that and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
I have done the big city thing, the suburb thing, the college town thing now it’s time to tackle the small town thing. I haven’t been here long but I have learned a lot. I have learned how to drive on ice and consequently fear for my life and the life of others every time I get behind the wheel. I have learned that mice travel in herds and they really like avocados, I have bought more groceries for them than I have for myself. I have learned that there are not enough words in the English language to describe a dramatic drop in temperature, all though the ones that do exist are mostly of the four letter variety. I have learned how to make my own coffee, since the nearest Starbucks is more than 20 miles away. I didn’t even think that was possible, I stand corrected. Most importantly I have learned that two little girls with big blue eyes that call me big sister can get me to do absolutely anything (no matter how uncomfortable crawling on all fours making pony noises can be).
Aside from my on going battle with nature I have been very busy. I am working on some new fabrics and making a ton of stuff that I will be sharing in some upcoming posts including a few projects for magazines that will coincide with the release of Neptune. To keep myself busy I am helping my Mom out at her Quilt Shoppe. So if you need any fabric cut and find yourself in the Northwest Missouri area then stop by and see me, I am there almost every day.

Sounds like you like your change. You’ll get used to the mice.
Been there, done that with the weather. I even made up a few words to describe it.

Pinkerville seems like it has its fair share of challenges but plenty of rewards as well.

Big move! I hope that you are truly able to slow down and enjoy this new life
Congrats!

Pinkerville sounds wonderful to me! I’ll bet your homebrewed coffee is much better than Starbucks, too!

Congrats on the move - I used to live in a mobile home (super brrrrr) on a farm in Camden Point - just due north of Platte City. The winter we moved in the heat wasn’t hooked up yet and we had only a kerosene heater. We moved the heater from room to room, only heating the space we were in. Of course, the water froze in the toilet bowls! The memories make me shiver - so glad to live in Florida.

Hi Tula-Jen!
I was looking at my beautiful Neptune fabrics tonight and thought that I would update you on the progress of my quilt! I bet that you can guess what I have accomplished by the keyword–LOOKING!
Was surprised to hear that your living in Pinkerville!
Hope that we still get to see your smiling face at quilt market so that I can buy you a cup of coffee!

Jen, I hope you enjoy the small town life. It sounds like everything is going to be okay! I live in “Snowglobe America.” so I understand about the snowy roads! Happy New Year.

Hey Tula. Jamie my friend you met at your mom’s quilt shop is a super gal. I begged her to e-mail you about starting a flickr group with your fabric. We are totally crazy about your line. I have included the link. I live in the country too, and I love it. Not in MO though, TX and not close to Dallas. Thanks or letting her start the flickr group. Take care and stay warm. MO is a lot colder than Dallas. We had 70 degrees yesterday.

Missed you! I am looking forward to pictures of the “farmhouse”. I’m sure it will be chic pink very soon.

Hi Jen!
We will miss you here in Dallas! You are a great gal who can bloom anywhere you are planted…so I’m sure you are having a blast already.
Will you be hiding mice in your next fabric collection?

Dear Tula,
Do you have any connection with Tula, Russia? It’s a formerly closed city (Soviet times) of 600,000 people, about 2.5 hours’ drive south of Moscow. I saw your name in a Moda ad and searched for your fabrics. Beautiful. Some of them, and especially your logo, are consistent with traditional Russian design…perhaps this could be another source of inspiration to you (though it does not sound as if you are in danger of running out)!
Keep up the good work and best wishes for 2009!

Holy Cow! I love your fabric, and so I decided to check out your blog. Lo and Behold, I live in that city nearby your town that has the Starbucks.
WOW! I definitely have to come to your mom’s quilt shop. I have driven by that quilt shop my whole life (I’m from Chillicothe) but now I have developed an interest in quilting. This is just the most exciting news I have heard all day!
Welcome to the neighborhood.

Recently started reading your blog and was happily surprised to find out that your mom owns the shop in Stewartsville. My parents live in St. Joe and my mom is a frequent customer. I am in Ohio, but we always stop in when I am in town–what a gorgeous place. Sometimes we spend hours in there. I’m a 30-something mom of two working on a career change and investigating how to get into the fabric design field. Sometime if you have the chance and are willing, I’d love to pick your brain about it. I’m sure you are busy, but please email if you have a chance. Thanks!
