Of things to come…

There is always work to do. I hope y’all have noticed that I have been making an effort to keep up with my blog. I believe this makes three weeks in a row, a personal record for a self absorbed lazy bum like me, YAY!

So I would like to introduce you to the first sketch in my new line due out eons from now. Seriously, I think it’s something like three light years away. It’s always like this. It seems so far away from having fabric in my greedy little hands that I can barely stand it. Then it’s here, I have a couple of weeks to make some samples and boom! it’s all over and the next deadline approaches like it’s running from a three headed chicken. I wouldn’t trade it for anything but it still makes the day to day stuff a little hard to keep up with. Things like laundry just pale in comparison and I end up suck in a “where’s the beef” t-shirt and a pair of bermuda shorts. It could be worse.

Cake, music and another year older…

Last week was birthday week, rah rah rah! I turned 29 (for real) and my little sisters turned 3, although if you ask Jane she turned 5, we are not sure why exactly. That’s Jo and Jane up there eating watermelon slices the size of their heads, Jo is the blonde and Jane is the brunette (or if you ask her the “blue”nette). Anywhoo, we had a good time and ate a bunch of cake. Jo put me in time out at least 3 times. I am more of a family pony than a sister I think but I play my role well.

For my birthday I went to see Neko Case and was shocked by the lack of enthusiasm in the audience. I know that dancing is goofy and almost no one is very good at it but please. What is it about the yuppy hipster elite that they can’t manage more than a head bob at a concert? I shook my booty anyway and left feeling both exhilarated and a little sore but that’s what its all about right? Why would anyone spend $30 to stand around and stare? I could do that at home. Boo. My party had a great time at the show and burned at least 1000 calories each so I call my birthday a success!

Stack-O-Plates

Living in the country is great because there are all of these random things all over the place. It’s like nothing is regulated here. The other day I was driving for no particular reason, lost as usual (I dunno, to me a fence and a bail of hay is just not a landmark), I happened upon a little gem. It was one of the best junk barns I have ever seen! I bought a set of dishes, all various shades of white. There were 122 dishes in all for 60 bucks!I have plenty of dishes but that is not the point. The point is the bargain.

So anywhoo now I have all of these dishes and nothing to do with them. So I am gonna paint ‘em! super fun. I sort of want to paint grotesquely fluffy kittens on them doing bad kitty things. That might be a little much so for now I am open to ideas. If I work anything out on them I will be sure to let y’all know.

Basil, not just a school in Switzerland

So here’s the deal, I have never been able to grow anything, not that I ever tried all that hard. I am mostly an indoor kitty, I work, I draw and I read, I tend to go out at night. I know what you must be thinking, vampire right? Sorry not that interesting.

Gardening has never been a huge priority for me, mostly because I have never had a yard, or much of one at least. Now that I live in the great vastness of the country I feel compelled to make at least something grow. It seems to be the highlight of summer out here and I am compelled to fit in, acquaint my self with local tradition and eventually be invited to every BBQ in town! I am almost there but I think making something grow of my own accord will definitely help get my foot in the door.

I have decided to start small. In a pot to be precise, I still have no idea what’s lurking in that grass out there. So without further adieu I would like to introduce you to my newly sprouted basil! It’s actually growing! I am kinda proud of myself. The trick was ignoring it. I totally forgot about it and voila! there it is! I can’t wait for it to get bigger so I can pretend I am actually going to cook with it too.
