Machine Love
I love an estate sale. I picked up several little treasures; an Astronaut Barbie from 1985 (she has both a plastic bubble head AND a jet pack, puh-lease), a bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln and this little gem. I have a soft spot for metal sewing machines. They are usually pretty expensive unless they don’t work. They said this one was busted but a little oil and a new belt and this baby sings. It weighs a hair less than a newborn elephant but it works like a champ. I was thinking of giving her a new outfit. My mom always says “It’s better to be over dressed than under dressed.” I agree so I have tried a few ideas on her. Let me know what you think.
P.S. actually making this happen may be beyond my reach but a girl can dream…

First one for sure! Have I mentioned I am waiting with baited breath for that one?
The first one!! I’m sure you can make it happen. You made it happen in these pictures, didn’t you? Wow
Aggh, it’s killing me that I can’t seem to find yardage of Caspian in Deep Sea anywhere, so I’m pretty sure the whole point of this post is that you’re taunting me.
Right?
Yeah.
Thought so.
I think this could start a trend in designer machines
And my vote would be for 1 or 3.
Well I too love the first one!
If you really found a way to do this, I think numbers 2 or 4 would play nicely with the fabric being sewn on the machine. 1 and 3 would be print Diva’s who don’t want to share the stage.
I want one too! I like number 2. Seems like it would match any sewing room decor. This is too cool! I’ll be waiting to see which one you choose.
I’m lovin’ the third one! Those pink feathers are GREAT!
I want No. 1! This is a brilliant idea. I would so buy a skin for my machine.
I like the first one! If you figure out how to do it, you’ll have to let us know! i want to do that to my machine! So cute!
PS – I just found out I’m having a girl – it was my secret wish ever since I saw all the pink and green Hushabye! Now to decide on a quilt pattern!
Definitely the first one if you’re able to do it! Such a neat idea!
i vote for navy neptune…. just looks classic.
Love no. 1, that is one very pretty machine indeed!
I see a collaboration with Pfaff or Bernina in your future, sewers would love to be able to buy pretty machines, we spend sooo much time with them!
What is that first design, I’m loving it!
I go for a new one… lets try the baby elephant scheme!
I love the first one. A girl’s gotta have pink, plus I love the bird peaking out from under the presser foot.
Psych! You totally had me going in the first picture. I was all, I’m going garage-saleing TOMORROW.
I love it! Don’t you wish you could put a “skin” on our sewing machine like people do on their phones? FAB!
I love my gorgeous Neptune quilt but for the machine I’d have to go with the pink and greenbird print. Door #1, oops, Machine #1.
OK, insanely cool! I love the second one the most, followed closely by the first. I realllllly hope you figure out how to do that!!!
First one I’d say, or just kpep it like it is – I think the machine already looks good!
– like a window sticker which you can peel off and stick on time and time again…have fun!
Maybe you can even figure out how to change the look according to mood
I vote for number three. Love the green and the pink feathers. And it really shows off the knobs and buttons.
So cool! I would want one.
Gosh oh Golly what an absolutely gorgeous look! Do # 1 as fast as possible, PLEASE!. So delightful and such a pleasant looking machine to work or play at when the drearies and droops get us down. Not me of course, I just like to sew anyway! You must share your plan. Sue
hope you go with option 2
I had one of those Astronaught Barbie’s from 1985, I think it is at my mom’s house still. I vote for number 2, I think it looks best with the blue stripe on the machine. Any of them would be great though.
I’m pretty sure I LOVE the feathers and the first one too…. it’s so cool!
OMG … I totally want a Tula Pink sewing machine. Heck, I’d settle for an iPhone case. Santa, are you listening??
I love the first one – someone needs to figure out how to do that! Someone has figured out how to paint Featherweights so they look fantastic – it will only be a matter of time!
Okay, forget the fact that actually DOING that to your machine is beyond your capabilities. I couldn’t even figure out how you did it in the Photoshops. Jealous of your skillz!
Yeah Girl…. we have got to Dream….And most importantly “A girl has gotta have options”……! You know like shoes when you travel…! She Likes It
Our vote — Number 1–git ‘r dun! When you figure out how to– let us know!! We have some machines that need a makeover too!
I think this is so cool, I like the second one. imagination is everything!
The first one!!! I love it
So cool. Sew, sew, sew cool!
Love that first one it’s gorgeous! That is such a wicked idea. I hope you can make it work!
Wow all of them! That would be so fun to do on one of my sewing machine!
Hello- Julie-you can fin Caspian Deep Sea at http://webstore.quiltropolis.net
anyone know where ot get Caspain in PAcific? I am dying for some more…. and I vote for #1 hands down;)
Love the machine outfits, very cool, too hard to pick a fave… my 37 year old Elna would look soooo pretty with one of those! Love your blog, I get the giggles when I read your posts, keep smiling:)
Kathy
I know I’m a little behind times but I love the pink feathers
I actually own this machine! It was my first machine ever!
I have enough trouble choosing fabric, never mind a skin for my sewing machine – these are all lush!!! Great idea and totally new!
A vintage Necchi!! You lucky, lucky girl. xo, suzy
Wow! Your ideas for giving this sewing machine a makeover are AMAZING! I’d love to have one of those! I’ve also used one of your images on a post I did over my blog. You can check it out here:

Thanks for the eye candy!
Stunning! I love no.1(flowers)! My motto: “If you can dream it, you can do it!” I am looking at this and thinking that I have to make something like this. Going to give it a try on something other than my machine and let you know when I attempt to do it on my machine.
Thank you for the inspiration. I see this was posted in 2009, only just seen it. Would love to know if you ever transformed your machine into one of these beauties!
Hugs
Liz
I HAD to check out the sewing machine!! Coming from TT&J. Wouldn’t it be great if they were made like your re-do’s?!! I have a Necchi – looks just like yours….. but I haven’t taken it out in so long, I’m not really sure! If you could manufacture designer sewing machines, home sewing would be the new “in” thing! Great find!
Did you end up doing something wonderful with your machine? I found your first photo on Tipjunkie fortunately with credit as someone also Pinned it to Pinterest – without credit… http://pinterest.com/pin/25034493/
I added your link to the comment under the photo.
Anyways, did you make your machine pretty? It looks stunning in the photo – and so much more fun to sew on. Old machines with very little plastic in them are ACE – they go forever!!
Hugs, Jasmine in Oz.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT DESIGNING YOUR MACHINE LIKE THIS! I AM VERY INTERESTED IN DOING IT!
