2010? For Real?

astrobarbie.jpgExhibit A

Welcome to the future. 2010 sounds so sci-fi. Where are the killer robots? When is my hover house on the moon gonna be finished? Excuse me, time travel? Come on, it’s 2000 freakin’ 10!In 1985 this is what the future looked like, Astronaut Barbie. She charts inter galactic maps, travels with a jet pack and armed with thigh high plastic boots she dances on stardust, at least that’s what the box says. Apparently the future also involved a lot of sparkle and puffy sleeves. I just thought it was funny.Anywhoo, in the last year I have moved from a loft in the city to a house in the country. I have accumulated a lot of stuff in that time. I am like a gold fish, I will grow to the size of my bowl. I now have three bedrooms full of stuff when 12 months ago I could fit just about everything I owned in my car. My resolution is to “cut back” on buying weird things (see exhibit A above). I can’t stop completely because there is just too much weird stuff out there and if I don’t pick it up someone else will. I like to think of it as charity work. I help relieve the burden of others. So, any good resolutions out there???

  1. I’m a little concerned about how much pure oxygen Barbie is getting, does that explain the vague look in her eyes?
At the very least I thought we’d have hover boards to get around on by now. Probably be more environmentally friendly.
    Good luck with your resolution,
    Abbe

  2. One of my resolutions is to finish my Nest quilt and cut into my Hushabye fabric. :) But, besides finishing projects, (wink) I want to fully live my life this year. Appreciate my days and my “present”.
    Happy 2010 to you.

  3. LOL I totally remember that Barbie!! Too funny. :)
    Resolutions?
The usual ones top the LOOOOOONG list….
Get healthy, you know eat better, exercise more. :P
AND finish 2 quilts which have taken way toooooo long to finish.
    Happy New Year!
    Bradie

  4. My resolutionfor 2010. Whenever I start to feel a little blue, I am going to open my lap top, go to my favorites, scroll to Tula Pinks blog, and Laugh My Ass Off!!
    Love ya

  5. I love that Barbie. Some wierd stuff is just so fabulous you have to buy it. My resolution is to not buy any more crafting “stuff” until I finish the crafts I have already started. I was inspired by your blog and others to start my own and chronicle my journey finishing my crafts. Good luck with your resolution. It sounds just as challenging as mine. BTW, thank you for the beautiful blog and the wonderful pictures!

  6. seriously, saying “twenty ten” is unreal. i am pretty sure we are supposed to at least have hover cars now. you know, a little “futurama” -esk. people flying around in tubes and what not.
good luck with your resolution, thats like me not buying fabric that’s on sale :)
one of my resolutions (along with loosing weight with the rest of the world) is to finish painting the master bath (which i started 3 years ago). lol, still has the painters tape up…..

    happy new year!

  7. My New Years resolutions always involve getting more organized, or to clean stuff out. Ha! Last year it was “a drawer a day” which turned into a “drawer a week” but it really turned out to be only a “drawer a month”, instead. I made it all the way through February……

  8. I am putting myself back on my list, and doing things for me. It may seem selfish, but it is important to take care of oneself, body and soul. No more school and I just want to sew again… I have so many projects and I want to work on them.

  9. Love the Barbie :-)
My goals this year is to improve my drawing skills, use more solids in my quilt, and remember to have fun!

  10. At least we have Barbie’s boots in 2010! And I believe I’ve seen that vapid look on some reality TV show contestants.

As far as your stuff, if you can group it, put in on a shelf and say it is a collection: then it is art! You must have at least 5 more fun Barbie’s.

Resolutions: Cook one new recipe a week. It can be a simple one. Was working on binding a quilt to actually cut my UFO’s to 2,010. teehee

  11. The eyeshadow and puff sleeves remind me of my prom pictures circa early 80′s.
