Stripes and Diamonds

flutterbyquilt_fs.jpg

First off, I would like to point out the sunshine in the background of this photo. I haven’t seen it in a while so it seems important. This was pretty fun to make and I think it turned out cute so I am passing the info along to the rest of you. The best part is that it’s a free download. Who doesn’t like free? I made mine with Flutterby and used cream and grey for the background fabrics. It was fun. Go make it.

Download the pattern from Free Spirit’s website HERE.

Origin Stories

neptune_reject_quilt.jpg

This is the very first quilt have ever made for my own bed. It’s made entirely from rejected Neptune swatches. These are all of the pieces that didn’t quite work for one reason or another. Any of you who read my blog know I have a special fondness for all of the little fellers who don’t make it. There are a few of the cans I had made on Spoonflower too in there just for pizazz!

This is quite possibly my favorite quilt I have ever made for a lot of reasons. One, I like it because the process of making it was totally organic, I just kept sewing until it started to look like something. It’s like a suspense movie, I had no idea if I would have enough fabric or if would would work out in the end, it was built on pure faith. Two, I am a total control freak. My neurosis borders on debilitating at times so to let all that go made me feel like a better person, at least for a minute before I starting freaking out again. Oh ya, and it was also the inspiration for my Spiked Punch pattern. That’s two stories of how things came to be: the humble beginnings of Neptune and Spiked Punch. I just love a happy ending, don’t you?

By the way, I redesigned my blog a little bit so you may have to empty your cache or history and reload the sucker if you want to see the new look.

More fun from the project closet

Being so isolated out here in the country can get lonely. I don’t need actual people to talk to as much as the idea of a crowd. Real live people need to be fed, entertained, related to and given places to sleep. It all sounded very exhausting not to mention expensive so I have an alternate solution to tide me over. Plate people! They say all the right stuff, don’t use up all of the toilette paper and never bug me when I’m working.

Remember those dishes I got forever ago at the antique barn? Ya, those. The plan is to make one of every person I love that doesn’t drive me nuts. Just a little silhouette and a descriptive quirk. I really can’t take credit for the idea, I totally snatched it from my friend who had them in her hallway who apparently saw them at Barney’s where they were on display via Jonathan Adler except mine are on plates, so there.

Nesting Dolls are fun, who knew?

I am having one of those rare and wonderful moments where I don’t actually have anything to do.  I have a special closet for just such an occasion. In this closet there is a wonderland of project ideas that have yet to be realized. This was one of them. I bought a set of blank nesting dolls at a weird little country store about a year ago. Then I painted them… I really thought there would be more to this story but apparently there is not. I am open to name ideas for each of the ladies if you have any.
