The Creative Process and Other Short Stories

pilesontheporch.jpgThe coordinators of

The Creative Connection Event asked me to guest post on their blog about my “creative process”. So I did. You, my friends, can read it here.  The event sounds like it will be pretty awesome. It will be in Minneapolis on September 16th, 17th and 18th.

Here is what they have to say about it:THE CREATIVE CONNECTION is a 3 day conference, crafting extravaganza, and emporium for creative women and women entrepreneurs. Created by Nancy Soriano, former editor in chief of Country Living, and Jo Packham, the founder and editor in chief of Where Women Create, this event brings together women who are passionate about being creative in their lives as artists, business owners, bloggers, and more.

Before you go rushing over there to leave tons of comments about how much you like me and how inspiring my work is (this is a request to make me seem more popular) I must warn you… They asked for a picture of me. If you have been reading my blog for a while you know that this is not an idea that I entertain often. So I may look a little irritated but that is only because I am and please know that it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the taunting that I received from my brother as he took the picture. Totally unfair. I plan on throwing fruit at him during his college graduation.

Twitterlicious

I have been inundated with emails about Twitter backgrounds so here ya go! It’s sort of a random Tula Pink sampling. If you use one be sure to let me know so I can check it out! Who knows, if y’all like it it could become a regular thing but I’ll never know unless you let me know, ya know?

Click on the thumbnail of the image you want. This will open the full size image in your browser window. Save the image and drop it into your Twitter settings, check the repeat option and there you go! So easy.

Now for the pesky copyright warning… use them but don’t abuse them. If I see these cropping up on some other wacky thing I will have to sick my team of blood thirsty lawyers on you. I just hate that don’t you?

Done, Fin, Ende, Avsluta…

The contest has finally ended! The last winner may claim their prize and I can stop waking up at 3 am every Friday morning because I forgot to post a winner. Yay!!!! The Full Moon Forest Jellyroll winner is Karielynn. I hope you enjoy it! (because I probably could have sold it on E-bay for tidy little lump of cash, oh wait, did I write that out loud?:) Thanks to everyone for being rad and participating!

P.S. I don’t actually speak any other languages so all that stuff in the title was just googled. If you have informative dialog regarding the proper way people say this or that send them to the language wiki. I was trying to sound awesome and multi-cultural but it’s just a clever smokescreen. Don’t fall for it.

God Save The Queen

May 30th, 2010

I love this quilt. The pattern is called Victory Garden but I call mine God Save The Queen. It’s my little tribute to the Sex Pistols. Yes, I went through a minor pseudo punk phase in high school. It involved a whole lot of eyeliner and a pair of over sized boots, nothing major. It happens to the best of us. I used Erin Micheal’s fabric collection called Lush from a couple of years ago. I like the idea of making little Union Jack flags out of pastoral American scenic fabric. There is something sort of wrong about it that just makes me happy. Oh, and the quilting is pretty amazing. Once again Angela is to blame for making me look good. That girl has mad skills. She’s like a quilting ninja.

Only one left!

It seems like only yesterday this whole giveaway started and now there is only one lonely little Jellyroll left. It seems sad somehow. Why don’t we lighten things up by showing Chelsea some love.  Everyone loves a winner!

Next week is the highly coveted Full Moon Forest Jellyroll. My maiden voyage into the wacky world of fabric design! You can still enter until June 3rd. Do that here.

Shop Tula Pink!

May 26th, 2010

shoptulapink.jpg

I have a store! Can you believe it!?!? You can shop on it and everything! So here’s the deal…

The first 10 customers of my new and totally amazing shop will get a free Tula Can quilt label. These little labels are more rare than a UFO sighting, getting struck by lightning and a renegade Ostrich combined (my Twitter peeps know what I’m talkin’ about). Take a moment to look at my super cute button over there (shift eyes slightly to your right). I adore all of you but I really love the first ten customers the most.

Go! Go! Go!

I Heart my MOM (or) Killer Kicks Part I

May 21st, 2010

plumeshoes.jpg

My name is Tula Pink and I am a shoe addict. I may qualify for state funded medical treatment. Anywhoo I love shoes and I love me so it only seems appropriate that the two should become one. I first heard about Zazzle from Heather Ross’ blog. Check out her shoes, super cute. This site allows you to upload your own artwork and they custom make the shoes. You get to pick the binding color, grommet color etc… It’s totally brilliant.

This pair was made from my Plume line for my mom who suffers from the same shoe affliction. I have been making my mom’s presents since birth, literally (think about it, it makes sense). Now that I’m past the acceptable point of popsicle sticks and white glue I’ve had to start getting really creative. So… shoes! Now she wants a pair of shoes for every fabric line I have ever made. I swear, I try to do something nice and all I get is more work. At least I don’t have to do anything painful. These were my Mom’s mother’s day present. Love you mom!

And the Nest goes to…

May 20th, 2010

nest_winner.jpgYaaaaaaay Tammy!Only two to go! I promise to post something else in the next couple of days too. When I started this give-away six weeks didn’t seem like a long time. Give me a minute and I will give y’all something else to chew on. Actually I have a bunch of posts waiting in the wings but I want to give our winners a little time to gloat. You can still enter for the last two jellyrolls up until June 3rd. Do that here.

Drumrolll!lll!ll!l!l!!

May 13th, 2010

Since Neptune got the most love I am giving back some o’ that sweet lovin’ with extra prizes. I hope y’all realize that I am just cleaning out my drawers here (not my underwear you dirty little vixens and what ever the male word for vixen would be) my fabric drawers. I am getting ready to embark on a whole new period of the Tula Pink empire, insert wink and sly smile here. But I digress, let’s get down to business.

So the winner(S) are…

Experimenting Part II

May 11th, 2010

There is almost nothing better than working really really hard on something and then spending a weekend seeing what happens when you systematically destroy it in your washing machine. Of course, this is only satisfying when you have a couple hundred yards of it safely shelved and covered in plastic.

feathercolordrain.jpg neptune_colordrain.jpg

I have been doing a little more experimenting and thought I might share the results with you. A friend of mine, Lauren,  bleached some fabric for our Guild project and I was totally into it. I tried using bleach and I also tried using RIT color remover. I applied each method to Neptune and Plume. I used my washing machine and followed the instructions on the box.

BLEACH- I added 2 cups of bleach to a regular cycle on my washing machine in hot water.  The bleach lightened everything, duh, but also took colors out completely. Aqua seemed to be the weakest color against the bleach and faded first. Aqua turned to gray, navy turned to brown, coral to a peachy brown, green to yellow, brown to gold/mustard.

COLOR REMOVER- This was really cool. The printed navy went to black, dyed navy went rust colored, aqua turned to a beige color and everything else went gold! Except the brown which pretty much held where it was printed, but the dyed brown portions went gray-ish. Awesome.

I’m sort of afraid to wash my clothes now.
