Shhhh… I’m Makin’ Stuff!

owl.jpg

My radio silence will soon be coming to an end. The day is coming closer when I can actually show you what I have been working on these last few months. I can’t wait! This is just a taste. Please be patient with me. I’m a fragile little bunny when I am working.

Hey There Honey Bun!

honeybun.jpgIt’s like a little slice of life! And it could be all yours. A Honey Bun is like a Jellyroll only smaller and cuter.  It has 40 1.5 in x 42 in strips of every piece in Neptune. How exciting is that! All you gotta do is leave me a comment and I will randomly pick someone to receive this little treasure. You will love it and I will love you. Don’t worry you don’t have to be clever, even though it will make me smile and that should be reward enough. So bring it on and win some free stuff. I will keep taking entries until Friday the 13th, because that sounds totally ominous and fun. I will announce the winner the following Monday, the 16th of February. Happy commenting! P.S. Some of you may have noticed that the entry changed a little. That is because I accidentally deleted it. Don’t fret, those of you who have already entered are still entered. Sorry, I am a nerd sometimes in my haste to do things and end up creating chaos. All is well now.

Neptune

neptune_header.jpgdeepsea.jpgaqua.jpgalgae.jpgcoral.jpgSo here it is! I am so proud of this collection that I could spit, if spitting didn’t totally gross me out. I have been making tons of stuff out of this and can’t wait to actually finish something so I can show it to you. I suppose you have already guessed the theme, it’s dogs! Just kidding. I grew up on the coast so this is especially special to me. It feels like home. I am landlocked here is Dallas so Neptune is a little tribute to what I miss most about California, the ocean. It was freakin’ cold so I didn’t go in it all that much but I looked at it a lot and that’s gotta count for something, right? Neptune will be hitting the shops in March. It will give you something to look forward to through the winter.

Tula of the Sea

What does a girl who gets paid to design fabric do with her free time? That’s right, she designs more fabric. I stumbled onto this Spoonflower blog a while back and my head was all a buzz with ideas. Spoonflower is a site where you can upload your own designs and they digitally print limited quantities of that fabric. It’s a blast. I can make all kinds of wacky stuff. I just had to try it out. I plan on using this site to make all of the things that Moda would never let me get away with. It’s not their fault, how are you going to sell thousands of yards of tuna cans with my name on them?

My first print… ta da! They are Tula cans, not tuna but Tula. I think it’s hilarious. So there are really big cans and little bitty cans. A girl needs options. The big ones are about 12 inches across and the little ones are around 3 inches.

So go check it out. Oh, and please don’t stop buying my fabric even though you can make your own now. Thanks.

And the winner is (are)…

Hello happy contestants! You have made me very happy. I feel so popular like a cheerleader with perfect hair and tons of lip gloss. If I weren’t a chubby brunette with a secret sci-fi obsession I might actually believe this little fantasy.

Before I announce the winner I am going to ask you to sit through a review of my findings. This was something of a market research scheme for my future fabric groups. I want to know what you want. Why? because I’m a giver. The clear favorite was the noble dog. This group was also the most specific, almost every dog vote was followed by a particular breed and of the 46 votes for dog there were 22 different breed faves. So I declare this group a dedicated one. The close second coming in at 35 votes was for the cat. These were followed closely by the owl, the giraffe and the bird. I have to say that my favorite was probably the one vote for unicorn followed by a near vote for “husband” as their favorite animal. All in all I am impressed by the diversity. So thanks again for playing my game.

The moment you have been waiting for is finally here. The randomly selected winners are as follows:

Tote Bag

Stacey: Owl, Former Dolphin lover in recovery

Charm Packs

Theresa: Red & White Tabby Cat

Krista: Flamingo (the pinkest pick in the bunch)

Melissa: Cat

Rachel: Moose

You lucky kids need to send your addresses to jenny at tulapink dot com. They are packaged and ready to go, all they need is a place to land!

Thanks again for playing my game and helping me out. You are the best!

Lush

lush_sky.jpglush_moss.jpglush_honey.jpg

I am putting my vanity aside for just a moment to show you something that I didn’t make. For the record I am green with envy. It is so ridiculously cute that I can hardly stand it. If Erin wasn’t my best friend I would probably pull a Tanya Harding on her and knee cap her. But then where would I go for pizza and movies? When the strike off samples came in for this I fell. in. love. Nothing but the actual fabric could really do this group justice, the colors are so fresh. I secretly want to redecorate my apartment with it, make a bunch of clothes and bags and maybe just roll around in it when no one is looking. The samples were sitting in the design room at Moda for weeks and I would go in and pet it, talk to it and try to coerce it into thinking it was mine, to no avail.  I mean really, look at it! Paint by number deer! paint palette polka dots! wacky citrus colored wood grains! A-maz-ing. One person should not be allowed to have that much style. It’s unfair.

Lush will be hittin’ your hot little hands in December. I am going to beg borrow and steal to get it a touch earlier. I know Erin gets advance yardage so maybe I will invite myself over with a pair of scissors and a large bag. Erin is one of those awesome people that can’t comprehend her own genius so maybe she won’t put up a fuss.

Cozy Conditions

nestflannel.jpg

Lumberjacks and 90′s grunge rockers would have had a lot more dating possibilities if their button-ups were made of this kick-awesome flannel. Who needs plaid when you can rock some hot pink swirls or electric teal bird shaped foliage. I mean really, I would be way more into spending time with a forest ranger if he looked as stylish and sensitive, in a masculine way, as shown through his shrewd sense of fashion.Anywhoo, here is my new line of Nesty flannels. Get cozy, enjoy!

Back Stage Pass

doubleandroll.jpg

As a fabric industry outsider this was about the coolest thing I had ever seen, my first time at Moda. This machine, called a double and roller, goes a million miles a minute and rolls a fifteen yard bolt faster than, well, a really fast thing. The lovely men and women who work these wonder things keep pictures of their families and friends taped to back of it. I think it’s so they have something to focus on or else they would all get dizzy and fall over. That would really slow down production not to mention the added cost of fanning and smelling salts. I thought it would be safer if they wore seat belts but they weren’t very receptive to the idea of being literally “tied” the their jobs. I have thought it over and I get that now.

The Whole Enchilada

nest_teal.jpgnest_sunset.jpgnest_leaf.jpg

Hey Kids. Sorry for the tardiness but there is a really good reason…

Sigh, no there isn’t I’m just lazy. In an effort to make amends I am finally posting the whole group. Yay! Birds are fun! This flock is in the hands of Moda’s able sales reps as we speak, so if you want it you better tell your shop NOW! so they can order it and it can be in your crafty little hands by August. It’s only a couple of months, no big deal right? I knew you could handle it. I got a little ahead of myself with this one, I was excited. You have no idea how painful it is to sit on this kind of information. It’s like having a baby, naming her, dressing her up all cute then hiding her from everyone you know and pretending like she doesn’t exist. That would just be weird and maybe illegal.

Sneaky Peaky Part II

nest.jpg

The sample yardage is finally here and the Quilt Market quilt makin’ frenzy has begun. It makes all the difference in the world to see real yardage as opposed to the itty bitty swatches I see during the refining process. That pink is HOT! & I don’t mean Paris Hilton hot, I mean sizzlin’ hot, rock star pants on fire hot. It’s good stuff. So yes, you guessed it in the last post, the theme here is birds. We’ve got bird houses, eggs, nests, bird tracks, loose feathers and clouds. The coloring is like Flutterby on steroids. It’s warmer and brighter just like my bubbly personality, except for maybe in the morning or late at night or right before lunch. I would avoid me during those times unless it can’t be helped and even then I wouldn’t make any sudden moves. Enough about me, look at the new fabric! Yay!
